LinkedIn Should I put unemployed or looking in my Professional Headline
LinkedIn Should I put unemployed or looking in my Professional Headline The professional headline on LinkedIn is the line that shows up directly below your name. For example, heres mine: One of the most common questions I get about the professional headline, from people who are looking for a new job, is: what do I put here? Do I put the title I used to have, or do I put that Im open to new opportunities (or any of the dozen other ways to say that)? For a while, my answer was to focus on your value. What do you bring to the table? That is what you should put there. The reason I said this is because the professional headline is one of the first branding impressions that someone can get about you, and in some cases, its the ONLY branding impression they might see of you on LinkedIn. Dont be too generic or vague have a solid branding statement that accurately depicts your strengths now, and where you are headed. Then, I heard about a friends husband who changed his professional headline to show that he was a consultant (I think that is what he did). He immediately had a very interesting reaction: people congratulated him for this big step in his career. He did this so that he could fill a gap on his resume. This is why a lot of job seekers become quote-consultants-unquote. The unintended impact of changing from looking for work to consultant is that his friends essentially said great job, now you have landed, and I dont have to worry about helping you anymore :) He quickly realized what he did and changed his professional headline back. The argument for putting Im looking is that it lets people know you are open, and could even use some help (networking introductions, referrals, etc.). It also tells recruiters and hiring managers that you are available immediately, and dont have to tie up the same loose ends that someone in a job would have to tie up. The argument for NOT putting Im looking is that it might make you look like used material, and worse, that recruiters and decision-makers might discriminate against you because you are not employed. This is a real thing, but I think that since 2006, its gotten a lot better (since so many people were out of work). My argument, especially in the early days, has been to focus on what you bring to the table (your skills, passions, etc.), not on your employment status. Note: Do not put your past title unless (a) it is the exact same title that you are looking for next, and (b) really, and simply, communicates what your brand is. So, those are the two sides. what do you think? What should someone put in their professional headline, if they are unemployed, or looking for a new job? Anxiety Depression Take a Step Back in Order to Move Forward -
Anxiety Depression Take a Step Back in Order to Move Forward - Your past does not determine who you are in the present, or in the future. Taking a step back into your past and âuncreatingâ unhealthy habits and behaviors can be a powerful way to move beyond depression and anxiety. For many people, life is all about judgement. We each have a set of standards that we live our life by; some of these norms we have chosen for ourselves but many others we have inherited or absorbed from family, peers and society. From these standards, we learn to judge ourselves and our adherence to these expectations: How did I perform? Where do I fit in the larger scheme of things? How do I compare to others, and to my own standards? When you are (inevitably) unable to obtain some â" or all â" of these external expectations, it becomes easy to make your choices, desires and behaviors wrong ⦠and make yourself wrong in the process. Defining Depression Depression can be different things for different people, but it often arises when someone has spent long periods of time (maybe a lifetime) reacting to this sense of wrongness; molding themselves into something they are not and cutting off vital parts of themselves in order to match the standards of their external environment. In many moments of our lives we are presented with a choice â" to choose who we truly are, or to choose what we are âsupposedâ to do, or be, or choose. In these situations, choosing âwhat you shouldâ instead of âwho you areâ can create an enormous pressure on your psyche. Unfortunately, this practice of conformity and inauthenticity is so prevalent in our society, and so entrenched in our usual patterns of behaviour, that most people donât even know they are adapting to suit othersâ points of view. That is, unless and until depression and anxiety develop â" a warning sign to the individual that they have chosen âwhat you shouldâ too often, and are living someone elseâs story. In this way, depression and anxiety are actually about awareness: you are aware of your true desires, needs and characteristics, and you are aware â" at an intrinsic level â" that your choices and behaviors are not congruent with who you are, authentically. Perspective Fosters Change Stepping back into your past can allow you to shine a light on the unconscious habits you have chosen to adopt; the points of view you have absorbed from others, and the lies that you have come to believe as true. Importantly, it can help you acknowledge all the ways you have attached to your past, and have decided how those events and experiences will determine your future. This can even occur with experiences that you consciously know have shaped your choices and behaviors today. In these cases, it can be that you have formed a construct about the experience â" a concept, a reason, a role for yourself and others, a decision on how to âdealâ with the experience. This often arises from a need to understand what happened and explain what it means in your life, but how you choose to understand the experience is actually just a result of your perspective and what you think the answers are. Developing a construct in this way is just as unhealthy as any unconscious connection to the past, as it holds power over you â" the points of view and lies that are entwined in this construct are determining the choices you make for your future. Observe Without Judgment The only truly powerful way to use the past to move into the future is to step back without judgment and without any point of view around what has occurred. And then, use the power of a question to liberate you from the experience completely. Effective questions can include: Whatâs right about this situation that Iâm not seeing? If I had no point of view about this experience, what would I perceive? How can I turn this experience to my advantage? Am I willing to destroy and uncreate everything I chose to be, do or accept as true about this experience that are not true for me? Depression is a sense of not feeling alive â" you spend so much time avoiding getting things wrong â" being wrong â" that you lose the natural energy of âlife.â By stepping back into your past, by confronting the situations where you have conformed to norms that are not true for you, and by choosing to rewrite your story from this point on, you can become alive again. You can stop buying into the story of your past and, instead, start creating your future. The Dos and Donts of Workplace Makeup
The Dos and Donts of Workplace Makeup Makeup at the office is a tricky thing as you need to balance it just right. Overdo it and you will attract unwanted attention and maybe even some ridicule from your coworkers but skip it altogether and that wild weekend you just had would be evident to everybody the moment you step into the office! To help you achieve that balance, here are a few dos and donâts of workplace makeup. Do Use Neutral Lip Color A neutral lip color, preferably in the pinkish hue is perfect for the workplace and it might even be a good idea to stock one or two of them permanently in your office drawer. The neutral tone will make your face look vibrant, without actually screaming out at your co-workers during office hours. The best part is that nude pinks are perfect for just about any occasion. Donât Overuse the Mascara Dark thick eyelashes have a time and place, but a regular office day isnât one of them. However, that doesnât mean you will have to skip the mascara entirely though. Office makeup is all about subtlety, so apply your mascara by rolling the wand from base to tip as this will essentially separate the lashes near the end. Do Skip the Complexion Changing Products Any complexion changing products or procedures such as tanning or bleaching should be left for long weekends or holidays, because they cannot exactly be removed right away if something doesnât work out the way you expected it to. Donât be the orange co-worker everybody is laughing about! Donât Go with Glittery Lips Itâs not as bad as some of the other mistakes on this list, but glittery/frosty/chalky lips may still make you feel awkward because they are not suited for professional environments. Sure, they might make you look like a teenager again, but when itâs the workplace we are talking about, thatâs not really a good thing! Donât Embellish Your Eyebrows It may work on you but that doesnât mean you should be embellishing your brows on an office day. In any situation, embellished eyebrows are very tough to pull off, unless you really know what you are doing, so the last thing you want is to show up at work with eye makeup that goes up to the brow line. Do Be Careful with the Eyeshadow When it comes to using eyeshadow at the office, there are only two rules to follow; Make the line thin and choose a lighter shade of taupe. It will perk up your eyes without making things too flashy. Compromises will need to be made while doing your makeup for the office, but one thing that should never be compromised upon is the quality of the products that you are using. Visit Maple Prime to find authentic and top-quality makeup, skincare and other beauty products from premium brands such as Gucci, Burberry, Versace and Georgio Armani. Office makeup is not supposed to be extravagant, but that is no excuse for using cheap products of inferior quality either.

Best Resume Writing Service - How to Choose the Best Resume Writing Service
Best Resume Writing Service - How to Choose the Best Resume Writing ServiceIn an era where resume writing service has become a common name, it is important to know the best resume writing services in the market. Without making the effort to choose a good service, the search for job would be difficult. With all these options, a job seeker may not be able to make the right decision. The following tips are useful for you to find the best resume writing service.First of all, what is an 'essential' for the service? This means that it should be necessary for the company to provide this. For example, if the company provides writing service, it should be able to provide custom made resume writing service, customized cover letter writing service, etc. If the company only provides resume writing service, it is difficult to find good service because of the fact that the kind of service they offer can be chosen by the applicant only.Next, what is 'important'? To find out what is important, you h ave to look at what type of information the service providers need to have to handle the job. It may include type of documents, orientation, education and training. In the case of resume writing service, the applicant should be asked if he/she would be willing to write an introduction. In the case of customized cover letter writing service, the applicant should be asked if he/she will be writing personal cover letters and even to include personal touch to the job request.Next, a resume writing service is only one among many available. With all these companies competing for the same job, it is difficult to determine which one is best. Thus, one must consider each option to understand which one works well for them. One can choose to ask the service provider to tell you how to get to know them. Though this can be time consuming, it is worth it because the service provider may be using different methods to get their clients' attention. Remember that you should go with the service provide r who not only knows how to get to know you but also knows how to get your resume to come up with the best results. This is the only way to know which service is good.Next, check the feedback that is available on their website. Make sure that the feedback is of a positive nature. This will help you get to know which service providers are working well and which ones do not work so well. Finally, ask yourself how you can save your time and money by using these services. Doing this will help you to determine which service is right for you. Be sure to take note of how fast the process will be. After all, it will be too late if the job is done in a poor way.Choose the best and utilize these services if you want to get the job done in a timely manner. Know how to do it and how fast you can get the job done so that you will know what to do.

How always being busy kills productivity - and 5 ways to avoid it - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
How always being busy kills productivity - and 5 ways to avoid it - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Your car is having trouble and will need repairs at a cost of around $1,500. How would you handle that situation? Scientists from the University of Warwick?led by professor Anandi Mani stopped customers at a New Jersey mall and asked them that question. Next the subjects took an IQ test and the results was stunning: For financially well-off participants, this question?did not affect their IQ scores in any way. But people who were struggling financially underperformed by 13 IQ-points simply because their?money worries?had been brought to their attention. This experiment is described in the excellent book?Scarcity Why Having Too Little Means So Much by?professor of economics?Sendhil Mullainathan and?professor of psychology?Eldar Shafir, in which the two scientists clearly lay out the negative cognitive effects of scarcity. When we have too little of something that is important to us we become a little dumber, less disciplined and we make poor choices. This helps explain -?among many other things why poor people keep taking out pay-day loans, even when they should know better and even though?those incredibly expensive ?loans just put them deeper in the hole. And this is not only about lack of money; the book gives plenty of examples of how time scarcity has?the same kind of effects, making us dumber and worse at managing what little time we do have effectively. So, knowing this, why is it that so many workplaces mercilessly keep putting their employees under massive time pressure? Why do leaders consistently create time scarcity? This happens when: Employees are routinely expected to increase their productivity year after year with little or no additional support, training or resources. A manager?commits to their?team doing more work with the same staff. A company is growing and taking on new clients/projects without a commensurate increase in staff and resources. An organization?lays off staff but expects the reduced staff to the same amount of work. Schedules?are filled to capacity with meetings and tasks?before the work week even starts, leaving no time?for ad-hoc or unexpected tasks. Some leaders think that these situations create a burning platform that pressures?employees to work effectively and creatively towards?the companys goals, but the truth is the opposite: Time scarcity reduces?employees cognitive resources and makes it much harder for them to do their jobs well. And whats worse, this can become self-reinforcing. Heres an example: An organizations reduces headcount leading to increased time pressure and scarcity among those left. This weakens their cognitive capacity and productivity drops, leading to even more busyness and scarcity. Is this something you see happening in your workplace? Here are 5 things we can do about it. 1: Take time pressure off employees Instead of giving employees hard-to-reach productivity goals and filling their work week to the brim (and beyond) we need to give them more realistic goals and leave some slack in their schedules so any ad-hoc task that comes along (as it inevitably will) does not topple the whole load. Most?employees actually get more work done?when they have productivity goals that are?reasonable and within their capacity. Heres a great example: The IT company Menlo Innovations in Ann Arbor?only lets employees work 40 hours a week and then only schedules 32 hours of work per employee per week. That way there is?no time scarcity and always time for unexpected tasks. This is described in the excellent book Joy Inc by Menlos CEO Rich Sheridan. 2: Celebrate good performance We also need to constantly?praise and appreciate people and teams for the good work they do. This give employees a sense of accomplishment and purpose that goes a long way towards combatting time scarcity. Some workplaces do the opposite though: First giving people unrealistic goals and then hitting them over the head for not reaching those goals. 3: Leave time for learning and development Every single employee must have time to get better. To learn new professional and personal skills. To reflect on what is working well and what can be improved in the workplace. This becomes near-impossible under time scarcity,?preventing employees from getting better at their jobs. The IT company Next Jump in New York?give each employee significant time every week to develop their skills with a mentor, in weekly meetings or on their own.?That way employees always have?time for?growth and development, which they deem essential to their success. Heres a great article on how they do it. 4:?Maintain good workplace relationships One of the first things to?go in a workplace facing?time scarcity is the workplace relationships. When we are?very busy it becomes exponentially harder to care about other people, to help and support co-workers and to maintain a habit of helping each other. ?Needless to say,?this?just makes the effects of?busyness that much worse. Instead we need to make sure that?there is always time to create and maintain relationships between employees. There should always be time for a coffee break and a chat with a co-worker.?No one should eat lunch alone at their desk. Even something as simple as saying a cheerful good morning to your team mates in the morning can make a positive difference and can be?neglected and forgotten under time scarcity. 5: Avoid permanent overwork Some companies try to?solve this by making people work more hours. Dont! First of all?? overwork can kill you: ? those working a 55-hour week face 33% increased risk of stroke than those working a 35- to 40-hour week. And to make matters worse, all those extra hours don?t even mean you get more work done: [Overwork] ? doesn?t seem to result in more output. So overwork is killing employees while?not improving business results. Can we stop it already? It?s a topic I?ve talked about a lot on this blog. The upshot Simply put, many workplaces put employees in a situation of near-permanent time scarcity, thinking this will pressure them to work harder. The truth is the opposite: It makes them more stressed, more sick, less happy and less productive. Instead, we should do our very best to reduce?time?pressures because that way, the organization will be more successful. Your take Do you see any of this happening in your workplace? Is time a scarce resource and how does it affect you? Write a comment, wed love to hear your take.
